1832 farewell on the Serapis ends in tragedy
John Maddock and Esther Wooding long for a future in Bideford. The ship Serapis battles storms off Port Nolloth and Cape coast, breaking and sinking. Maddock survives the wreck with three others, but Esther learns of his death when derelict wreckage is found near Plymouth. Easter 1833 brings grief to Bideford and Esther.
