Shadows on the Curtain by Mel Ida Roberts
A fragmented poem about shadows on a curtain as family life unfolds. It depicts a mother rocking while children gather under lamplight and the curtain becomes a stage for memories and intimate moments. The verses touch on tender scenes of siblings, a father, and a child’s journey toward an angelic end.

Satire, Scandal and Vengeance in Pompadour Era Paris
In a Paris private salon during Louis XV’s reign, Adrienne de Marneville humiliates poet Desforges with a scathing satire on Madame de Pompadour. Desforges battles love and pride, kills rival Beauvoir in a fit, is imprisoned by Pompadour, and ends in a cage while Adrienne marries Beauvoir. The tale ends with the Revolution’s dawn and the fate of all three.

Great London Fog Causes Chaos and Accidents
The Great Fog in London described as the densest in years blocked visibility at two o’clock in the city. Pedestrians, cabbies, and omnibuses struggled as streets emptied and shops shuttered. Accidents rose, river collisions occurred, and several lives were lost or endangered, prompting telegraph delays and rescheduled departures for the day’s travel and markets.
