Fatal mill accident at Fort It Lafarge dies in Chetwynd plant
Jean Baptiste Lafarge 6% year old staff carpenter dies after being crushed between lumber and a gear box on a live chain at the planer mill during a coffee break. He was taken to Dawson Creek and pronounced dead. Coroner Dr. Watson performed an autopsy. an inquest will be held. Surviving are his widow, son Yvan, and two daughters. Funeral planned at Our Lady of Peace Church in Chetwynd with internment in Alberta.

A rink representing the Chetwynd Hotel defeated the Hart Hotel rink from Peace Coupe to capture the Northern Hotelmen's Challenge Trophy donated by Carlings. Ken Wood led for Chetwynd with Roger Cemmins third, Mary Philippe second, and Art Kensit as manager. Hart Hotel skipped by Elmer Rushfeldt. The 10 end match finished 14 to 9 with a pending rematch demanded by the Force Coupe group. Wood and Demmigis had previously reached the Calgary Brier in a past season.

Fifteen people attended a meeting at the Chetwynd Hotel to organize a Chetwynd Junior Chamber of Commerce. An interim executive was elected with Barry Russel as president Dave Stesle as secretary and Coleman Graf as treasurer. Charter Night was postponed due to requirements and a by law and constitution committee was formed. Membership targets young men ages eighteen to forty for community service.

Pearen Gets Road Contract for Dawson Creek to Moberly Lake
Pearen Ltd of Dawson Creek won the contract for 14 miles of the Chet wind Hudson Hope road from the existing work to Moberly Lake. The bid was 1.646 million dollars, with Ben Ginter Construction second at 1.649 million. A further 14 miles to Chetwynd remains to be let. contracts expected this fall or winter for a spring 1965 start. The road will be paved and built to heavy truck standards serving BC Myrtle Power materials.
