Mr Gordon Gibson leader of the Liberal party in the provincial legislature visited Chetwynd on his way to Portage Mountain Dam. Those with him report he saw nothing but good in the project and he praised the dam, suggesting it be named The Bennett Dam.
Dennis Moore son of G Gordon Moore leaves Chetwynd to join Canadian Forest Products Ltd pulp mill at Prince George. He will first go to the coast for a three month course in duties at the plant. He has long worked with his father in Fort St John Lumber Co and has an interest in Moore Ranches with property in the Moberly River valley near Moberly Lakes.
Rumor notes Trish Drilling plans an oil rig about 35 miles up the Sukunka Valley with no company name available. Crews work to repair a road in poor condition to move in equipment.
Sixteen equestrians attended the first trail ride sponsored by Chetwynd Rope and Saddle Club. The group gathered at 10:00 a.m. at the Forestry airstrip, rode eight miles along an old logging road, then returned for an evening camp fire and weiner roast. About 40 people attended the camp fire and plans for an overnight camp out were discussed.
Inland Gas Co. crews from Prince George are installing 27 new connections and about 3000 feet of main extensions to serve new buildings in the village. A new main along the north side of the access road east of Hart Service serves the Tipton store. Crews will return in the fall to connect premises expected to start soon. many applicants are anticipated.
