Chetwynd Hospital Prospects Discussed With Health Director

At a Monday meeting in the Chetwynd Hotel local officials and residents pressed for hospital and medical facilities. W D Burrows, director of research for the Provincial Department of Health Services, warned of potential Hudson Hope issues while acknowledging Chetwynd’s growing need for care and education facilities as 4 000 Peace Power workers arrive and 700 pupils enroll.

New Drug Store to Open in Hotel Addition Space

Spencer-Dickie Drugs Ltd signed a lease for part of the hotel addition to run a fully serviced drug store. Principals Mr and Mrs Don Dickie already operate stores at Quesnel and Williams Lake. The shop will offer prescriptions, sundries, patent medicines, and a full line of photographic gear and film service. Target opening is September, depending on completion.

Stewart Lake Mill To Celebrate 250 Days Without Lost Time Accident

The Stewart Lake operation of Fort St. John Lumber Co will mark 250 days without a lost time accident with a steak dinner and two silver dollars for each worker. Safety Director H Beamer praises the safety program and the company’s precautions. The Safety Department at Chetwynd has run First Aid classes for the public over two years with many certificates earned. classes will resume this fall.

First Trail Ride Sunday at Chetwynd Rope & Saddles Club

Chetwynd Rope & Saddles Club hosts its first trail ride this Sunday leaving from the air strip at the Forestry at 10 with a return to the Exhibition Grounds by five. Open to anyone with a horse, riders may end with a camp fire weiner roast.
