Dover library board welcomes Jennings to first meeting
Dover Library board members welcomed Richard Jennings at his first meeting Thursday. Head librarian Almeda Olmstead announced 139 boys and girls are enrolled in the summer reading program. Police reported thefts and a missing pet in Dover as residents filed two reports yesterday. The Tuscarawas County Planning Commission will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Goshen Township building off Route 39, east of New Philadelphia.

Driver 13 and Friend Injured in Rt 21 Crash Near Newcomerstown
Two Newcomerstown girls were admitted to Coshocton County Memorial Hospital at 4 40 AM after a car on Route 21 went out of control on a sharp curve and struck an embankment. Candita Underwood 13 and Rita Patterson 15 suffered facial and bodily injuries. Patrolmen expect juvenile court citations as the investigation continues. A separate late morning crash near Newcomerstown involved a motor vehicle levette. Earlier, at 11 05 PM on Route 36 west of Uhrichsville, Frank Slocum Jr. 32 of Uhrichsville hit a power pole. he received eye lacerations and was treated at Twin City Hospital. The crash is under investigation.

Gilbert Smith of Tippecanoe RD 2, Harrison Carroll counties, 46, a former Army officer and 11-year welfare department employee, was chosen from four applicants. He will be paid 650 dollars a month during a three month probation, with a board review for a possible raise. Smith’s first project includes plans for a day care center for low income working mothers to aid employment while limiting babysitting fees.
