Local items include Mrs. W. V. Denny injured in a runaway, Wayne County Fair coming Sept 25 27 at Wooster with races and bands, school attendance mandate for ages 5 to 14, and multiple notices of deaths births and community events. Also reports on constructions, farm yields, and civic notices in Holmes and surrounding areas.
A county meeting discussed a U S Department of Agriculture plan to build a subgrade macadam road along Burbank road from Wooster city limits to the Children’s Home. Jay F Brown urged a 9 foot stone lane and 10 foot earth road with gravel and granite ballast, a 6 to 7 inch foundation, and open ditches for drainage. A 13 member committee was named to inspect materials for a Sept 20 meeting.
The North Ohio Conference met in Ashland starting September 9 with Bishop H W Warren presiding. Officers appointed include Secretary R T Stevenson of Ohio Wesleyan University Delaware and various assistant secretaries and district presiding elders. The closing session on September 15 announced official appointments and district leadership across Cleveland, Lorain, Mansfield, Sandusky, and Wooster districts. The Coming State CBE convention was moved to Zanesville on October 25 1902 with a strong Evangelization program led by Emory Hunt and regional speakers.
The Street Fair and Fair Carnival executive committee convened to finalize plans for October 14 to 16. Businessmen pledged over 900 dollars toward prizes and amusements as contracts are set, with Harding & Co offering a 55 dollar road wagon for best farm display. Residents are invited to compete and enjoy continuous entertainment during the carnival.
The Housekeepers' Club held a social on Thursday September 11 at the home of Mrs. Marian McCoy two miles southwest of Wooster about eighty attendees shared a program of recitations music and acted parts. Hospitality and flowers complemented refreshments as families of members joined in. The note invites readers to the Wayne County Fair in Wooster September 25 to 27.
The grand jury reported 60 witnesses examined 14 cases investigated and six indictments found. Names include John Meier and John Onesto for liquor offenses Frank Derr Henry Kockheiser for assault on Grace Shakely John Berger for embezzlement Samuel Shanklin bond forfeiture case Judge Eason presiding. Martha Ross wins divorce from Lloyd N Rose custody to Martha Naylor.
