State seeks to fix minimum teacher salaries this winter
Columbia Dispatch reports State School Commissioner L D Bene brake plans a law this winter to set a minimum teacher salary. He cites Pennsylvania and West Virginia as examples with minimums of 35 and 40 dollars respectively. He favors Ohio adopting the higher figure, arguing teachers are scarce in many counties due to better pay in other lines. Interurban lines lure rural teachers with year round work and higher wages, compared with nine month school terms.
