Local papers note Decoration Day observances with quiet reverence and solemn ceremonies. Messrs. R.S. Newkirk and J.S.R. Overholt attend religious gatherings in Harrisburg while Wooster hosts high school commencements and a grand Sunday post office schedule change.

Reverend P M Weddell, former Wooster resident, was stunned when lightning crashed through the Piqua Baptist Church last Sunday morning. His daughter was slightly injured but not in danger.
Joe Hill a Wooster to Moreland mail carrier makes the 12 mile round trip on foot twice a week in all weather. He jokes about liking the work noting the only rest comes when delivering the mail. A local man reports suffering an accidental pistol discharge near a shop area.
Officers of the Children’s Home express gratitude to the Ladies Relief Corps and G A R for providing free admission to the grand exposition at the Rink. The children enjoyed the event greatly and will remember it fondly.
A North street suitor pledged to fulfill any wish of his beloved if she would marry him for life. She asked that he buy all her dresses at Weil Bros to save money, and he promised. The couple now wears the ring.
A social will be held in the parlors of the First Presbyterian church on Tuesday evening, June 2. Everyone is promised an enjoyable time with refreshments and entertainment provided by Mrs. D. W. Bechtel, Mrs. Allen Clark, Mrs. D. W. Immel, Mrs. Rob't Cameron, Mrs. Wm Routson, Mrs. J. T. Shields, Mrs. J. B. Taylor, and Mrs. Warren Aylesworth.
M L Spooner was absent from the Board of Equalization meeting as he was out of town. The City Council held a special session and appointed Peter Foust to the Second Ward seat. Both Spooner and Foust attended the next morning’s board meeting.
The so called monument bank at the post office opened recently and yielded less than two dollars for the Soldiers' Monument fund. The coins were small and a pile of buttons and odds ends were found inside. A later note claimed 165.08 at the River 28, but no coin above 25 cents was discovered.
An invitation is extended to attend the Sixteenth Annual Commencement of Biddle University in Charlotte North Carolina on Wednesday June 3 1885. Professors Eugene P Semple and Jno P Davis of this city are named. The writer praises the university work among Freedmen and urges support for the institution.
Wayne County postmaster Ruch at Mt Eaton kept his appointment despite a political change. Once suspected of GOP backing, locals admit the Riverside tally showed a shift years ago. News of Blaine’s rise and the new administration eases his position as the presidential chair warms for another man.

N R Hill Jr provides a Crawford’s Campaign sketch. Russell Errett adds notes on Indian Geographical Names. Subscriptions are four dollars a year and sample copies can be examined at this office.
Wayne county residents praise the Domes tic Sewing Machine sold by J Hoffman Son for ease of use and reliability. A new style Doméstic with attachments is on display at Hoffman's on the West Side of the Square for buyers to view the model. Rev Foote was moved from the 2:08 A M train to return to Chile with his wife after a Kansas visit amid concerns for his health. Dr Firestone notes overwork has strained his nervous system.
Returns from assessors show a table of births and deaths in Wayne county for the year ending March 31. Plain and Clinton townships are excluded as not returned yet and Worcester city was reported last week.
The P F W C U Ry and the C Mt W D RR offer convenient trains via Orrville. The Wooster to Cleveland morning train departs 7 43 AM, connecting at Orrville to reach Cleveland by 10 45. The return from Cleveland at 3 5 PM connects at Orrville with the Fort Wayne Mail to reach Wooster by 6 13 PM for a four hour Cleveland stay. This schedule is the best short trip option for Cleveland business or leisure.
