Desperate fighting erupted in St. Petersburg as Cossacks fired on barricaded workers during a strike involving about 300,000 men. Six killed, many others reported dead as troops outnumbered workers and forced them to flee. FEAR grows that unrest could spark a broader revolution across the empire with further clashes anticipated.
Waycross Moguls manager Jack Coveney has recovered from an accident in Thomasville and may play in the opener with Cordele. He has been suspended but appears eager to return, providing a boost as the team fights to climb higher.
Atlanta July 23 The House considers the Shepard Child Labor Bill as defenders press amendments. A vote is expected this afternoon on the measure governing child labor practices.
Dr J H McIntosh, longtime political foe of Governor Cole Blease, was shot and severely wounded by an unknown assailant in Columbia on July 23. Bloodhounds were set on the trail as the attacker fled shouting, Now you won't bother Cole. Governor Blease pledges full aid in capturing the shooter.
Valdosta Ca July 22 The Machinists Union of Valdosta at its last meeting endorsed J Randolph Anderson for governor. An enthusiastic meeting was held.
Waycross parcel post is expanding sharply says Postmaster H. C. Bunn. The year ending June 30 1915 is expected to show a large gain over the 1914 report. In twelve months to June 30 1914 the office handled 115 115 parcel post packages. The government parcel post system is gaining strong local support with rising use and solid receipts from stamps box rents and money orders.
The Republican State Committee chairman Barnes said he would sue Theodore Roosevelt former president for libel over Roosevelt's claim that Barnes is a political boss and engaged in mal administration and corruption in New York public offices.
This afternoon at the Country Club the gun club holds its first contest with a clay pigeon shoot. A picked Savannah squad arrives at noon for a luncheon and match against Waycross. Savannah team includes Dr F C Wilton W J Thompson T C Roberts John Steight and W Cardinal. The Waycross squad features J M Hopkins Fred Brewer J T Watt J A Moore and C E B Groover. The Savannah team is regarded as among the best in the state, with Dr Wilson noted for high records.
Department of Justice files a bill in equity against the New Haven Railroad charging monopoly and Sherman Act violations by restraining trade in New England through control of railroad water and trolley transportation. The filing seeks dissolution of the monopoly. civil suit preparation noted in Washington and New York reports.

In Terre Haute, heat interrupts a Knights of Pythias encampment, forcing abandonment of several events and prompting many debaters to return home.
Carrying out plans of the fire committee of city council the fire department is using the auto apparatus to handle the ladder truck and hose reels. A trial trip with the ladder truck hitched to an automobile showed it could be done without difficulty and Chief Hall expects time savings and reduced expenses by using an auto to reach fires.

Walter Holmes, a Macon resident, confessed to fatally shooting Cliff Cook in Wall Street alley. He led officers to his mother's home where the pistol was hidden, while Ben Atwater faced arrest initially deemed a mistake. Cook remained critical with two bullet wounds, amid rapid political disclosures overshadowing the trial.
Washington July 23 Senator Burton of Ohio criticizes federal harbor spending in Savannah arguing the port’s traffic warrants lower costs. He notes a needed channel twenty six miles from outside the city to the wharves and complains about improvements to the city waterworks and up to King's Island. Greenwood Del July 3 Ralph Freeman fatally injured as a large fire destroyed several stores and ten homes in the town. Damage was estimated at 75000 dollars with extensive property loss reported. Fire officials investigated the blaze and worked to prevent further spread.
