Waltertown Mill Burns in Sudden Fire at Waltertown
The big mill at Waltertown, owned by Waycrows Lumber Co., was destroyed by a fire last Friday around 3 AM. Machinery, a machine shop, a locomotive, and lumber were lost. The blaze spread rapidly from the slab pit. insurance coverage appears insufficient. The loss may throw 300–400 workers out of employment and affect local merchants. The prospect of rebuilding is unclear though reports hint at immediate reconstruction on a larger scale.
