Birmingham dispatch reports the 18th murder in 18 months as Constable W. Ellard is killed at Hagan's drug store in Lewisburg. Ellard's 8 year old son Ralph is shot in the thigh and Hagan and Payne flee. Hagan later surrenders at the county jail. In Savannah, work begins on installing Atlantic Coast Line's telephone train signaling between Savannah and Charleston, with plans to replace telegraph lines and unify signaling across divisions.
