The aviation meet opened this afternoon at 2 o'clock and will run for three days. A large canvas enclosure rises in Central Park to house thousands of spectators as crowds from out of town arrive. the carnival opens tonight with many attractions for visitors.
The Johnnie Jones Carnival Company arrived in the city and will begin shows to entertain crowds. The route via Waycross and the New York Atlanta Jacksonville highway is highlighted as the direct path avoiding the Okefenokee Swamp. Our condolences go to C. E. Harper and H. D. Reed over the loss of their wife and son.
New line ladies dollars and new styles advertised at 23c raise caution as Churchwell reports several reported losses in town.
The Sea Island Cotton Growers meet in Waycross at a Theater session led by Hon. Charles S. Barrett with about 300 delegates from the Sea Island belt. R. A. N. Wilson of Mississippi stressed cooperative farming and agricultural development amid political distraction in the South. A public meeting is set for 2 PM, executive sessions at 3 PM, and a Brunswick Stew dinner tonight at the LaGrange hotel hosted by Mayor J. M. Cox. Delegates listed include Barrett, Wilson, Morris, Buckworth, and others from Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama.
Waycross delegates returning from Atlanta report a vigorous effort to route scout cars into a Jacksonville extension of the New York Herald Journal line. They stress urgent action to secure the Waycross route, noting 100 delegates in the city and interest from Congressman Brantley and local officials.
Waycross and The Herald extend a warm greeting to the cotton growers convention now assembled in the city. Mayor Cox voices pride in Waycross hosting the event and pledges help for the delegates’ stay and success in advancing Southern interests.
About 100 A C L delegates were guests of the Ladies Label League last night. They attended a show at the StaJatite Theatre and later gathered at LaGrande Pharmacy for ice cream and social chat. Dr. Smith, proprietor of the pharmacy, provided cigars and hospitality, ending a pleasant evening.
