Savannah Ga Jan 11 Mayor Tiedeman was re elected mayor over Capt R J Davant by 299 in one of the hottest elections in years The entire board was carried with him except Alderman H B Wilsbo who will be succeeded by Col.
Governors of the Board of Trade are scheduled to meet this afternoon to discuss matters of interest to the city. Communications have been received and resolutions sent to various organizations for approval. The meeting will consider membership applications and a position affecting all in business locally.
The Board of Trade Service reports rain starting in the northwest of Georgia tonight or Thursday, with warmer conditions tonight. Fair weather remains in the southern and eastern parts. Colder air moves in Thursday and spreads across the state, culminating before the weekend.
The community mourns C. L. Thigpen, longtime respected citizen, who died in Valdosta after a few days of sickness. He was in Waycross last week visiting friends and relatives and appeared in good health. Funeral plans are being arranged with expected wide representation from Waycross and Thigpen family connections.
The thin section will gain substantial ad space as campaign advertising proceeds. W H Crumb and associates plan start soon with a booklet crafted at the Board of Trade secretary's suggestion. Chicago sponsors praise the mutual benefit as Waycross prospects rise from boosted local property appeal and business attention.
Perham, Sr. Inspector for the State Department of Agriculture announces the start of fertilizer inspections in Southeast Georgia. Farmers are asked to send a card to arrange an inspection visit, with the inspector ready to visit promptly in Waycross, Georgia.
Washington DC telegram to The Herald shows Waycross leads among listed Georgia cities in the thirteenth census with 10,182 residents. Comparison figures include Brunswick 9,081 twelfth census 8,459 eleventh census 7,656 Valdosta Dublin and Dublin City also noted with lower counts. Dana Durand, Director.
Mayor Joan M Cox urges Waycross council to hire an expert accountant to audit 1909 and 1910 books annually, replace lax city record keeping, retain a police chief and adjust salary for City Marshal J W Colley and possibly the Tax Collector. He backs extending sewerage to Kings Daughters Hospital, abolishing open closets near water mains, and a public vote on cows roaming streets.
State and County taxes due must be settled at the Sheriff office by January 98 or a levy will be made. D. W. Pittman Sheriff. Just in at Mutual Grocery fresh cranberries, 1s pound.
City Council, in a near midnight session, reappointed most 1910 officials for 1911. F W McDonald won police chief, J W Colley coroner, Dr D M Bradley health officer, Leon A Wilson street commissioner, J W Surlektand clerk of council, Me Joiner chief of fire department, A C Blythe tax inspector, W H Buchanan city treasurer, and A C Lowther tax collector. Waycross Journal named official organ. salaries largely unchanged with small increases for clerk and city marshal and a raise for tax collector. Fees abolished in city offices replaced by fixed salaries.
The oath was administered to new aldermen James Sinclair , C Dunn , and Fred Brewer. It commits them to faithful, impartial service for Waycross, denies improper influence, and vows to promote public welfare without fear or affection. It declares false swearing punishable and notes oath entry on city council minutes.
