Sheriff Bennett led two nighttime raids surrounding houses near the A B A freight depot and Old Nine near A C L yards. About 20 men accused of game gambling were captured, with several taking bonds. officers praise the sweep and vow to curb illegal gambling as early court action follows.
Mayor Cox held a brief session this morning adding 8.00 to the city treasury. A well known African American man charged with drunkenness amused the court by trying to borrow his 2.00 fine from fellow prisoners and offering fire and police chiefs to pay it instead, which they refused.
Mr. D G Zeigler engineer of the proposed Atlantic Waycross and Northern Railway will open general offices in Waycross early next week. Col D G Edwards of New York and Col Edward will assist as engineers in charge of the railway project and water power work. Edwards is noted for the New York Barge Canal chief engineer role.
Deputy Sheriff C A Bennett yesterday arrested Gilbert Tyler, a man wanted in Milledgeville on seven indictments including an attempt to kill his wife. Tyler skipped his bond and will be turned over to the sheriff to face the charges. For more information call 215 201m.
