Five Men Held in Toombs County Jail Over Miss Newsome Death
Lyons Georgia December 28 five white men are held in the Toombs county jail on knowledge of the murder of 19 year old Maggie Newsome at English Eddy on the Altamaha river last Monday night. The men named Bud Bagon John Toole James Mason Jr and a man named Falter deny shooting the girl and claim innocence. An inquest was held by the county coroner but results are not yet known. A pistol bullet of 38 calibre is said to have killed Miss Newsome as she lay dying with the five men nearby after a party at English Eddy neighbors report she went with them but later died before making a statement. Her father is a farmer at English Eddy.
