Routis stages fine comeback to earn title

New York September 23 Andre Routis won the featherweight world title at Madison Square Garden from Tony Canzoneri in a dramatic comeback. Routis was knocked down in round one and battered late, but rallied to win by a 2 to 1 decision before 11,000 spectators. The 25-year-old orphaned Frenchman has fought ten years, mainly in the United States, as a gritty, unpolished fighter with a crouching weaving style.
