Gist and Est of It From War Era Gists
Page features a collage of humorous fragments, political commentary, and letters. It includes lampooning lines about a broken organ, a mention of Lieut. A Noble Ladd from Chickasha Oklahoma, and a critique of the idea that virtue guarantees happiness. It also tours moral philosophy, a war substitutes list, draft-age curiosities, and a legal-age drafting discussion.
Football Plans Shaped by War Department Rules
War department guidance limits football schedules and travel at Iowa colleges. Coaches may work but lack authority as military officers decide which games and trips are allowed. Nearby schools may schedule weekends without disrupting artillery training, while many players face camp recall and potential replacement by others.

High schools to continue football despite principal letter
Dubuque and other Iowa high schools plan to carry on football this season. East and West high schools, led by Principals Miller and Wallace, defend football as a means to discipline and character. Government drafts or delays may affect veteran players. East has mostly under 19 candidates, while West fears losing key players if no director is appointed.
