A Waterloo doctor fears a forged check he gave August 20 to a stranger claiming to be an Owl organizer named Joseph Gevil. Police advise he may be connected to earlier bad checks in Mason City and suspect more victims. Owl lodge HQ labels Gevil a con man with no real ties to the order.
At the Waterloo east board of education meeting Charles Fish told a humorous auto story about a newly married woman cranking her husband’s auto. The board discussed buying a runabout for Supt. C W Kline whose travel between schools is heavy. A visiting nurse may need the machine for constant use.

City visiting nurses will begin work and additional nurses may be added if Waterloo west joins the plan. The nurse will inspect schools for illnesses and defects, accompany children to homes for medical attention, and monitor disease as it enters schools. If the plan fails, the board may hire an independent school nurse. Open grade crowding prompts an extra seventh grade classroom and teacher at Lincoln building. History and geography studies at Wesl High captivate students with maps and war reports, though interest in ancient civilizations remains low. Principal Wallars says no textbook changes will occur until peace and European borders are settled.
