Legal battle tests validity of Iowa road valuations
In Des Moines federal court Judge Wade opens a case with Missouri and Nebraska judges presiding. Rail and transportation firms challenge the executive council's tax valuations that would raise road taxes by over 1 million dollars, arguing the assessments are unwarranted and unequal. Evidence includes county transfers, farm land values, and state agricultural data showing varied per acre values across counties.

Bogus heirs claim estate funds in Iowa suit
Le Mars, Iowa, Sept 12. A perplexing case centers on the estate of the late Rev. Walher M. Tierney. He left a small sum to heirs, but a letter purporting to be from attorney C B E Downey authorized transfers. Clerk of courts Roy Root and aides faced a $2,257.21 claim after drafts were cashed by unknown parties. Heirs contend they never authorized Downey or powers of attorney. The case also cites questionable signatures and missing funds.
