Reports from San Francisco reveal Capt. Stanford E. Moses and Commander John Rodgers and four PN-9 crew members were found safe after nine days adrift. Moses said the news ends the anxious wait, while Rodgers pressed toward the Hawaii flight goal with the PB-1.
British foreign secretary Austin Chamberlain announced a drafted note inviting Germany to a conference of foreign ministers on a proposed allied security pact. Time and place of meeting not yet decided.
William Holland, a well known auctioneer, plans to move back to Waterloo from Cedar Rapids where he has lived for seven years. He will resume his profession in the area with his wife and daughter, after a 30 year absence and a record of 3,000 evictions. He previously conducted auctions in this area and in St Paul before and during the war.
An all day meeting of 28 train department representatives from northwestern Bell discussed plans to improve local and long distance services. Delegates from smaller offices and companies participated, with J Y Kremers directing the gathering and ReW Rickey among the attendees.

Waterloo residents are invited to apply for roles in a new Strand Theatre and Evening Courier produced motion picture titled Waterloo. An application bank is published for locals to fill out and submit at the Strand theatre, with a title contest run by the Courier and Strand. The process promises a fully staged photoplay with hero heroine and villain, casting from local applicants.

A 17 year old named Kenneth Baldwin shot and killed his father Walter Baldwin, a well known farmer in Harrisburg, then killed himself after his father insisted he return to the field to work. Reports say the youth had protested illness.
Reverend J A Laurie, pastor of Garfleiz Presbyterian Church, returned this morning from a trip abroad begun mid June. He will preach at both morning and evening services Sunday. Laurie visited July Switzerland France and England.
Walter Bridgman of Marsaallinnan was arrested Wednesday after police found him in a Geahunbile. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and related offenses as filed today by the county authorities in Coulee.
The scheduled bout between Arnis Owens of Los Anestes and Stone was postponed until Monday due to injury. Officials cite medical concerns and aim to secure a safer date for both fighters.
Des Moines reports Gov. Hammill ordered gangster Dave Masters returned to the penitentiary after Masters was paroled for medical treatment. Parole board chair A Jensen and warden cited hospital care and money as factors. Sheriff protests led to rapid state-wide manhunt and Masters’ arrest at a friend's home.
Retelling of Commander Rodgers and four aviators in peril near Nawiliwili Harbor. Despite exhaustion and dwindling rations, Rodgers shared his own scant supplies while the crew endured nine days at sea. Rescue by a Navy boat brought them to safety as the seaplane’s crew endured exposure and strain.
Five of the naval seaplane PN-9 No. 1 crew were ashore at Nawiliwili after being towed by submarine R-4 to port. They had been without food for four days, endured tropical sun, and were ferried to Linhe hotel for medical checks. Commander John Rodgers led the team as they recounted a perilous, weathered flight from Honolulu to Kahului and back, with a dramatic rescue by a submarine and subsequent celebrations by island residents.
In Iowa City on September 11 a Teferni freshet caused polluted waters to flood the Coralyilla dam area. Thousands of fish gasped for air as contamination drifted downstream toward Marshalltown. Professor Homer R. Bill warns residents not to eat fish from the Rose River as pollution travels the Iowa River. A near record catch yesterday of 60-pound fish was reported, while some fish have already died.
Shenandoah Arkansas reports Henry Field, seed mellon man, received a 112 pound watermelon grown near Hope. Prize details include no second prize in southern union. 126 pound melon awarded to President Coolidge. The melon to be served during a broadcast program at Field station KEFXNE Wednesday night. Also, local suit for 11000 damages filed in district court against W. C. Het, Fon, and W. E. Sizely over stock in Dat ean-Kerwin company alleging misrepresentation.
Rev H F Bayernfeind reports Allen Memorial Hospital will need space for nurses soon as occupancy nears full by October or November. A waiting list of 40 and 12 new nurse training candidates were noted, with the lower floor already used for training and nurses. The superintendent said the hospital has set a national record for rapid development and patient intake since opening.
Messy dispatch reports masked intruders forced entry at the Kleckner home seeking information on a Ku Klux Klan member. Mrs Kleckner was seriously injured by the shock and intrusion.
