Immigration Act to be broadened next Congress

Washington dispatch reports a renewed push in Congress to extend the 1924 immigration quota law to all western hemisphere countries, with Mexico targeted. Labor Secretary Davis and Immigration Commissioner Hull lead the drive, arguing that current policies funnel undesirables from Mexico under loose entry paths, undermining the act’s aims as thousands of Mexican entrants and workers affect North Central industry wages and conditions. The plan would curb Mexican and Canada entries, altering annual admissions and reshaping regional labor dynamics.
