New School Plan in One Grades One System
Reports to John C McGlade superintendent from teachers of seventh and eighth grades in west schools say the new departmental system under the opening term Tuesday runs smoothly. Seventh and eighth graders at Central school form a junior high in the old west high assembly room with teachers specializing in one subject. Recitation rooms on the first floor are led by eight teachers with 50 minute periods mixing instruction and supervised study. The system extends to other district grade schools and has required moving 7-A pupils from Washington Irving to Central and Whittier to handle early grades. Sixth Street marks the dividing line for northwest and southeast pupils’ school assignments. Whiter school enrollment is 402.
