Des Moines Iowa State Fair Attendance May Hit Record
Des Moines reports incomplete returns for the state fair attendance this year. Total visitors likely between 374,000 and 400,000, with 408,247 for a day last year and 499,088 in 1917. Weather affected crowds but exhibits expanded, premium offerings rose to 106,009, and many new classes appeared. Florence Vick of Calatar won the spelling contest, with prize money listed. Several dairy and livestock awards announced, including Wisconsin and North Carolina in the dairy exhibits. Total receipts for 1920 not yet known but may exceed last year due to higher admission.
