Waterloo approves sixth artesian well contract
Waterloo waterworks trustees awarded the sixth artesian well contract to Thorpe Bros. of Des Moines for 18008 dollars, with C. H. Varnen of Dubuque a close second at 18065. The well on Longfellow Avenue will start by December 1 and be completed by May 1, 1928, forming part of a 45000 dollar system including a 4000 foot 20 inch line to reservoirs and pump house. The city operates four wells to date, all sunk 1300 to 1400 feet, with water purity credited to century-old artesian supply and no typhoid cases linked to the water. Trustees J. W. Rath, A. W. Survived by sons John J and Richard G of Waterloo and several daughters including Mrs Rueggies and Mrs Cole. one brother Jacob E Bickley of Clarksville among 14 siblings.
