Early returns show a dry victory for Iowa prohibition with 161,237 in favor and 158,290 against from 2,004 precincts. Des Moines, Sioux City, Council Bluffs and Cedar Rapids leant dry while many cities including Dubuque Clinton and Muscatine voted wet. Springfield Oct 16 approximately 10000 coal miners in central Illinois idle as wage increases failed to take effect. Demands include 10 cents a ton for shing coal 5 a day for day work and 1 to 1 1 2 percent for yardage and day work.
