Iowa Shippers dispute farm board classification in Chicago meeting

Des Moines reports Knute Espe of the federal farm board clarifies that the Iowa Co operative Livestock Shippers Association did not join the Chicago conference because it is labeled a shippers organization that sells through old line commission houses. He notes many members sell via co operative channels, with over half of Iowa hog business previously bypassing terminal markets, and pushes for correct board classification and continued cooperation with co operatives and terminal agencies.

40 POUND HERDS GAINING IN IOWA AMES MAN STATES

Independence Iowa November 3 an increase of per cent in the number of herds in Iowa averaging over 400 pounds of butterfat in town over the number of 400 pound herds a year ago was announced last night by Earl Schurtz of the dairy extension service at a meeting of the Wapsie Valley herd improvement association. Continuous testing is one reason for more high herds the average time in test work for the 400 pound herds being four years. The dairy income of the United States last year exceeded the value of all automobiles manufactured and the total income of the steel industry. Iowa consumed more milk than gasoline used. The butter production has doubled in eight years with only a 19 per cent gain in cows. In Iowa low production is blamed on dairymen rather than cows. Four in every four herd buyers turn out a good producer, but many older cows are culls. R A Nelson spoke on alfalfa and sweet clover pasture. Rowley high school orchestra provided music for the meeting led by Glenn Anderson.
