May 1926 saw unusual rainfall with .77 inches recorded by Ralph B. Sippy. Highs reached 84 on May 21 and a low of 36 on May 12. May 1926 had 18 clear 14 cloudy and four partly cloudy days.
J F Klingaman, Civil War veteran and ex Waterloo police chief now living in Los Angeles, writes that after 62 years he cannot break the habit of reading the Waterloo Courier. He recalls starting in January 1862 and notes he will have read the Courier 3 years straight by January 7. He claims he sent the paper to California in 1913 and received 16 copies awaiting him.
James Rachford, longtime Busby Bros. theatre and poster advertising associate, died at 6 P.M. in Marshalltown hospital after a paralytic stroke. He had been ill since an automobile accident months earlier. Funeral arrangements are pending with A J Busby and Herbert Parker. He was about 60, survived by a brother and sister in Beaumont Texas. He was known in Waterloo for work at Electric Park and the Odeon theatre, later managing Busby Bros. services in Marshalltown.
Fayette Iowa May 31 Luther defeated Upper Iowa 5 to 3 in a 13 inning game. Larson and Radke pitched well for their teams with Larson handling seven hits and Radke striking out seven as the Peacock hurler fanned batters and Luther broke the 2 to 2 tie in the 13th inning.
