Old Man Detour Absent From Black Hawk County Roads
For the first time in years the Old Man Detour does not stand guard on any primary road in Black Hawk County during the motoring season. County engineer W. D. Johnston explains the system is graded and surfaced with concrete or gravel. Detours were used last year during paving and gravel work. Owing to grading on the Hudson Cedar Falls road two detours exist on the township road one mile west and extending two miles north. Traffic is not diverted from the Dewar to Bremer County line while grading continues. Three tractors with blade graders are at work on the project. A new grading system fixes ditches at the fence side.
