Herbert Siefken Li son of Mr and Mrs J W Siefkin of 325 Newell Street was seriously injured at 6 p m when the bicycle he rode was struck by a motorcar on Jefferson Street near Lo avenue. He sustained a severe cut on the head bruises and a torn left leg. He was taken to a physician then home in fair condition the following day. The bicycle was demolished.

Chicago capitalist George P. Porter raced to India to win the hand of Mima de Man tiarly of Paris after meeting five years ago in the United States. The 43 year old, known as Chicago's most eligible bachelor, will wed a 28 year old fiancée who is half Russian and half French. Theosophy student went to India two years ago to study. Porter served as western treasurer of the Progressive national committee in 1912 and was assistant chairman of the Republican national convention in 1920.
Chicago reports a plan for housecleaning at the Board of Trade to avert drastic reforms. Secretary William Jardine and board officials discussed possible actions to stabilize wild price swings.
In Keokuk Iowa on May 27 the twenty fourth annual session of the Iowa Federation of Colored Women's Clubs votes to establish a student loan fund for Iowa State University students. Connell Bluffs will invite the convention next year and officers will be elected at today’s closing session.
Indian trader Mike will lead a delegation of five southwestern tribes from here to Los Angeles for the Shrine Convention. They will perform corn harvest and fire dances and hold running races daily during the event.
I C Robinson was arrested by deputy Ray Armstrong after a collision between Robinson’s car and Jacob Gales’s vehicle on Red Hall pavement near Murphy farm south of town. Both cars were damaged, no injuries. Investigating officer reported a possible alcohol odor but said Robinson was not intoxicated.
Washington May 27 The Norse American celebration at Minnesota state fair grounds June 3 will be addressed by President Coolidge. The ship leaves Lakehurst June 7 and arrives at the fairgrounds the next day.
Dr. W. E. Knowles aged 88 former Waterloo resident and Civil War veteran died today at his Sioux City home after a long residence there. He came to Iowa from Mlingis in 1852 settled in Black Hawk County. His daughter in law Mrs. J. Knowles died April 7 and was brought here for burial in Waterlan cemetery. Knowles gained fame in the Civil War for capturing Confederate spy Helle Boyd at Charleston North Carolina. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
Rev. Rodney Gebb of Davenport was fined 25 dollars in police court for driving 80 miles an hour in a 55 mile zone in Burlington. The officer cited that he passed the motor vehicle officer on Main street.
In Chicago on May 27 the Illinois Commerce Commission heard the Grain Marketing company’s bid to transfer public warehouses to operating firms with stock held by the marketing company. The Illinois Agricultural Association seeks to classify the firm as a public utility under commission jurisdiction.
J B Perry father of Mrs H W Grout died this morning at the Peoria home of a daughter. Funeral is set for Saturday afternoon in McHenry Illinois where he had long worked as a banker. He was 86 and his wife died last spring. A son Col H T Perry served in the United States Army and was recently stationed in the Philippines.

Albert Werske cleared by Judge J C Beem for automobile theft due to insufficient evidence. Accusers Malcolm Harbour John Drake and John Wesley Campbell also tied to liquor transport and car theft cases. Harbour jailed briefly then released. Drake held to grand jury on liquor charges. Campbell held on auto theft and linked to a Wichita hijacking claim.
Cedar Rapids society was amused by a postman error that delivered a reception invitation to Addie Cherry Bel, one of the vaudeville Cherry sisters, instead of a different Miss Cherry. The sisters attended the event, were warmly welcomed, and wore outdated stiff shirts and bell shaped dresses, while Henry Ely, a wealthy realtor, hosted the gathering.

Three Waterloo high school youths have signed up for the summer military training camp at Port Des Moines with more to join before August 1. John Coolidge, son of President Coolidge, is among the first enrollments and plans for his four week stay are underway. The President praises the camps as essential in national security teaching citizenship, obedience, and democratic ideals.
