Dairy Herds Gain Profit This Year Across Iowa Cremeries
The Iowa Creamery Managers Association reports March butterfat prices rose to 56.47 cents per pound from 46.62 cents last year, boosting patron returns by about $8,027.28 per creamery and possibly $15 per man. Despite higher costs due to roughage shortages, net returns per patron are up at least $10 for March. Producers should build sinking funds and reserve for education while watchful on future demand and production. Top creameries by butterfat volume include Jesup, Sioux Center, State Center, Hudson, Boyden, Oelwein, Strawberry Point, Monticello, Hull, and Fredericksburg.
