Ottumwa beat Waterloo 7 to 6 as Glyde Kettenbeil pitched nine strong innings for the Hawks. Grant’s absence due to his wife’s illness in Madrid, Iowa forced changes with Pat Kelsey at third and Ray Fansher in the outfield loft garden. The contest featured a late surge by Ottumwa, including a three-run fourth and two more in the seventh, while Waterloo threatened but could not overcome the visitors.
