1916 Was Record Meat Production Year in America
U S meat production set a record in 1918 with 20.13 billion pounds of dressed meat and lard, led by pork gains and beef expansion. 1917 figures were about 16.32 billion pounds. Exports nearly doubled from 1917 to 1918, while domestic consumption rose to 171.4 billion pounds. The increase benefited farmers despite higher costs, and beef, pork, and lard outputs surged. Exports of beef and pork+lard grew strongly, signaling a global meat demand boost during wartime.
