March 20 Fort Madison Iowa officials say bad roads to the Continental Machinery Company factory may force suspension of operations in coming days due to material shortages and shipping delays. Heavy rains have made riverfront roads impassable. teams and trucks cannot move through axle-deep mud. An effort to improve roads is under way.
Rev J B Speaker of Logan Avenue United Evangelical Church was re appointed to the local charge at the annual conference meeting at Center Point Iowa last week. The Cedar Rapids District appointments list includes OC STautfacher presiding over Cedar Rapids and a roster of pastors assigned to towns including La Porte City Lisbon Marshalltown Des Moines and others. It reports 3467 cattle, 846 horses, 15 mules, 4674 swine, 89 sheep, 793 bushels seed, 67041 dozen eggs valued around 35000 dollars, 207 houses, 104 percent autos and 16 tractors. Tillable acreage totals 21888 and Dows on Barclay farms numbered 3207.
In Council Bluffs Iowa on March 30 thieves tried to blast into the courthouse vault between Saturday and yesterday. They damaged the vault door but could not open it. Most liquor was sent to Cherokee State Hospital, with some left for sale. No clues identified. Advertising is always NEWS.
