Congress Tries to Find Causes of High Prices
Washington reports a sweeping bill to regulate monopolies and curb profits has been filed by Rep Frear of Wisconsin. Judge W D Boies of the Eleventh Town district joins a judiciary subcommittee to study price fixing in sugar and probes into gasoline, fuel oil, and coal prices. The bill aims to empower the federal trade commission to declare usurious profits and restrict licenses to those reducing excess profits. The Rogers bill to stop misbranded goods advances with Rep Burton B Sweet of Iowa on the interstate commerce committee. Textile interests testify as the fabric bill would require clear labeling such as all wool for wool goods and precise descriptions for other items.
