Iowa Sifted Bills Doom Many In Forty Second Assembly
Des Moines reports that a flood of bills has entered the house and senate during the tenth week of the forty second general assembly. Most measures have not been acted upon as committees take charge. Through the period 477 bills entered the house with 34 passed and signed, 18 failed or postponed, 38 withdrawn, 60 passed in the house but not the senate, and five passed both and await governor signature. In the senate 195 bills introduced, 178 left unacted, and two year ago figures were 293 house bills and 376 in the senate. Thirty three senate bills passed both houses and governor, while 95 passed the senate only and 22 withdrawn. The state road control bill passed, income tax defeated, and the appropriations bill expected to finish by week end. Banking legislation remains, with possible adjournment around April 9.
