Lawn City to Ask Teachers to Sign Contracts Soon

Cedar Falls March 18. Contracts for the next school year will be sent to members of the teaching corps of the city soon by the newly organized board. It is reported that the high school teachers have served informal notice on the board that their minimum demand will be 1300, while the grade teachers are to ask 4200 for nine months. The Cedar Falls Commercial club names officers S C Bailey president and others. The high school Tigers will close the basketball season facing Cedar Falls high.

Dad sends Turkish rugs to fund son's Grinnell education

Des Moines March 18 Sargis Der Michelin, studying at Grinnell College, receives aid from his Turkish family who ship oriental rugs to Dr J. award Kirbye in Des Moines to sell for funds. Yesterday three rugs arrived, one bought by Kirbye for his wife. two are about a hundred years old and expected to fetch about $500. The family is now making their own rugs as conditions improve at home.

Large Congregations Attend Services at Grace M. E. Church

Grace M. E. evangelistic meetings draw growing crowds each night. Speakers include J. Highmey on counterfeit money testing and genuine Christianity, Guy M. Lees on Religion as an Investment, John H. Allison Iowa March 1 The Butler county treasurer has received the delayed auto number plates. Up to March 1 2398 automobile and truck licenses had been issued and the total fees collected amount to 46088.80.

Revision committee to set medical society fees in Scott County

The Scott County Medical Society revision committee chaired by Dr. Frederick Lambach will meet Friday evening to finalize charge recommendations. First calls could be adjusted to about double the day rates, with further details to be announced after the meeting.

Groceries Seized From Garage in Grand Larceny Case

More than 400 in groceries and supplies were seized by Sheriff George Bassett day as alleged violation in the garage at 1622 First Avenue North. J Newton McCall, grocery delivery man for the Boston store, placed under $1,000 bonds charged with grand larceny. Stock sufficient to open a small grocery and auto accessories shop was found in the garage, claimed stolen over several months.

Davenport Likely to Contract Paving With Fair Bids

Davenport Iowa March 18 The Central Engineering Co of Davenport would do most paving this coming summer if the city awards contracts to low bidders Bids opened Tuesday run about 10 percent above board estimates and roughly 40 percent above last year but still judged low The council is expected to award the contracts at the Monday night meeting Average brick bids are 4 40 per square yard while asphaltic concrete bids average 3 50 The concrete bids average 83 20 though paving with this material is unlikely Most paving would use asphaltic concrete

Miss Lou Hanchett Made Superintendent of Finley Hospital

Waverly Iowa March 18 Miss Lou Hanchett visited from Friday to Sunday en route back to Mitchellville where she served as house nurse at the Girls Industrial School. She will move to Dubuque April 1 to assume duties as superintendent of nurses at Finley hospital after a notable Red Cross service overseas.

Orange High School Wins in Grain and Livestock Judging

Orange High School from Orange township led Black Hawk county in the annual state high school grain and livestock judging contest at Iowa State College. Carl Klingaman was top individual in farm crops. Harold Hoff of Orange placed high in animal husbandry. The 65 competitors from 16 teams included Harcourt and Missouri Valley. Edward Prince, Bloom Fleming, and Jeffrey Peterson featured among top performers. The event was run by the department of agricultural education at Town State.
