Uniform motor code urged by national safety conference
Washington reports a national conference on street and highway safety has forwarded a three act model for a uniform motor code. The acts cover vehicle registration and title certificates, licensing of operators and chauffeurs, and a highway operation act. Provisions include drunken driving restrictions, speed limits, at grade crossing safety, vehicle weight and construction rules, penalties for theft or fraud, and driver age limits of 16 for operators and 48 for chauffeurs with stricter rules for school bus and public passenger vehicle drivers. The committee favors waiving exams for seasoned drivers and excludes habitual drug users from licensing.
