Citizens Debate Junior Bond Campaign T: Waterloo service league canvasses for bond buyers and hails union of citizens and bankers to fund 750000 junior bonds amid mixed reaction
The Waterloo campaign for 750000 in junior bonds sparks confusion over terms and aims to enlist residents through a canvass of city directories. A dozen volunteers will identify potential 1000 or 100 shares, urging patriotic investment while noting failures, successes, and peculiar attitudes toward thrift stamps and liberty bonds. The effort includes cases of citizens faced with mortgage threats to fund bonds, and a new Community Service league branch forms at St Pauls church to support related drives with committees on Red Cross, canning, gardening, publicity, and fundraising.
