New York reports Marine engineers estimate 1000 1000-ton merchantmen could be built in a year at 9 knots for about 100 million dollars, or the same tonnage at 14 knots for about 150 million. The plan, proposed by F Huntington Clark, would replace steel freighters with wood motor ships to blunt submarine attacks.
