Cummins on Reciprocity in Senate Drama

Washington June 28 Senator Cummins Iowa described the Canadian reciprocity debate as a senate drama and offered amendments to the agricultural provision. He warned the president will not accept amendments and criticized a Republican Democrat coalition to pass the bill. Wheeling, June 28. The Wheeling city council passed an ordinance imposing a fine on any person in a public address who uses vile or vulgar language. Councilman P F Haberselck proposed the measure to curb the vocabulary of Billy Sunday, the evangelist hired by local churches for a religious campaign next year.

Man on trial for counterfeiting steals watch

Arbuckle Brothers Battle Sugar Trust in 1890s Fight

William G. Gilmore testified in the house sugar trust inquiry about Arbuckle Brothers of Brooklyn taking on the American Sugar Refining Co. in 1898 and 1899. They cut prices in West Virginia and Ohio to steal wholesale gain, suffered losses of about 1.26 million, and later the Arbuckles moved into coffee to strike at the trust, to discredit package coffee.

Let Hand Indian War Chief Dies at 83

Darlington Oklahoma June 26 News of the death of Let Hand longtime chief of the Arra hea tribe at his home near here reaches this place. He was 83 years old. Hand became a warrior at 15 and fought in every southwest campaign after that. He was famed for his role in the massacre of Major Deel Filiote and nineteen men during the battle near Wachita, close to Chepenaa, Oklahoma.
