Better Weather Boosts Corn Growth Across Iowa

Weather has turned favorable after two weeks of cool conditions aiding corn emergence. In Black Hawk County a knee high stand on C. J. Rudolph’s farm west of Cedar Falls shows good color while farmers note persistent mulch crust delaying plowing. Oats and other grains suffer from dryness, hay will be short, alfalfa yields remain strong with new fields helping soil building. Birds threaten cherry crops but growers protect trees to ensure heavy yields this fall.
