Giant ocean constrictor sighted by river travelers
Two young men paddling a river in a canoe last evening reported a massive constrictor about 18 feet long, measuring as thick as a man, emerging from the water and climbing a tree. They fled after a shark-like motion and fear it may be the same monster previously sighted near Adella.

Tragic Suicide at Oelwein Lodging House
Peter Hurd hanged himself in a rooming house owned by Tilly Pattison in Oelwein Iowa. He used a rope looped over a spike and wrapped a wet towel around his neck to avoid cutting. Hurd, once with C. G. W but recently in St. Paul, left no known reason for the act.

Mayor Seeks Public Fountains Along River for Open Water
Mayor J R Rector backs four sanitary drinking fountains two on each river side to provide cold pure water from deep wells avoiding contamination. Deserted wife wins $10,000 from Boulder mining funds
Mrs. Katherine Canfield, once left with six children thirty years ago, secured a district court order to seize $10,000 of her husband George Canfield’s mining property in Boulder. Now 75, she raised the family through hard work while the husband pursued mining ventures and later retired in Cincinnati.

Special Train To Dubuque Sunday
All set for a Sunday trip to Dubuque to attend a double header. A special train over the S C will run leaving the city around 8 or 8 30 in the morning and returning in the evening. The Waterloo band is engaged to perform for the Dubuquets in appreciation of their city’s support at the North Three league opening. A timetable will be published tomorrow.

Forger Nabbed in Record Time After Bank Forgery
A woman forged an $800 check at a city bank, seeking $600 for a real estate deal and depositing $200. Chief Dinneen and his wife, detective Mrs. Dinneen, traced her through deposits and purchases, recovered $380 at her Lafayette Street home, and charged her with uttering a forged instrument. Mrs. Winner, recent visitor to the station, faces divorce-related troubles and a pending case.
