In a June 6 issue the Waterloo Evening Courier and Reporter published a Camp Cody New Mexico dateline story claiming Major B. Philpot was struck by a cowpuncher recruit and disabled. In Ottumwa Iowa June 20 the trial of J N Wilkerson before the local justice ended in a fight between the detective and State Agent Terrell.
