A 13 year old girl in Waterloo wrote and mailed a threatening black hand note to a mayor demanding 5000 dollars. Police traced the handwriting, confronted the girl, and she confessed under tearful testimony. She was cautioned rather than prosecuted. The case was kept private to shield the family.
Belle Plaine Iowa reports the Burley house bought by Ray Howard of Missouri and G W Stamm of Toledo Ohio. The pair take possession and plan repairs and improvements to run the hotel with about thirty staff. John Leicht, longtime clerk, stays on to help launch the new ownership.
