Turmoil at Des Moines University as reform take over looms
Des Moines June 13. The Baptist Union of North America has taken over the university and will use the campus for fundamentalist teaching equipment. Resignations by Dean of Women Phyllis Spencer and biology professor Norman Grier fuel talks of more exits. The college of pharmacy may move to Drake University as Dean E O Eagy meets Drake president Morehouse to discuss the shift. Carl Weeks, former Des Moines University trustee and Drake backer, plans to attend. The board seeks adherence to the union confession of faith, provoking departures from key faculty.
