Oelwein Man Waives Hearing On Serious Charge
James Van Esten 47 of Oelwein waived a hearing at West Union on a serious statutory charge and was bound over to the grand jury under a 3000 dollar bond not furnished. Sam Keeler of this city was arrested and taken to West Union on a charge of illegal transportation.

Chicago night life is moving to suburban venues as prohibition enforcement closes central clubs. Since July 1927, twelve top night clubs were closed and 475 more cases are pending, with 125 roadhouses opening outside the city. Padlocking follows hip pocket evidence under the Volstead Act. Indianola Iowa June 7 two men identified as Forest Davis and Richard Freeman are held to await grand jury action on forgery charges. They were arrested after informants say they cashed checks at five stores, giving different names at each place.

Minnesotan Not Wanted for Vinton Bank Holdup
Lewis Mills held in jail at Preston Minnesota is not one of the bandits who robbed Farmers State bank at Vinton last summer. Sheriff R L Whelan said witnesses said Klass bore no resemblance to the Vinton robbers. State Agent Hi Yackey believed Klass had no connection to the crime. Klass surrendered at Preston saying he intended to marry soon and denied guilt.

Local Man Pleads Guilty to Breaking and Entering
