Des Moines June 7 Majority of Iowa’s national convention delegation left for Chicago tonight. Headquarters opened at the Auditorium Hotel after officers arrived earlier. The delegation will pick Iowa’s reps for four committees and aim for seating of the split eight delegates at large.

Government proving grounds to store large TNT magazines near Bellevue

Bellevue Iowa June 7 announced work on 1 new buildings at the government proving grounds opposite the city will start July 15. Congress and the war department approve a giant magazine dump for reserve ammunition with 44 ammunition magazines and 21 high explosive magazines.

Fatality at Ackley Grade Crossing Averted

Ackley Iowa June 7 a serious accident at the West Main street crossing of the Illinois Central railroad involving a navy automobile. The Freese family narrowly escaped instant death when Train No 27 eastbound struck their car. Mrs Freese and a daughter were injured and a son was rendered unconscious. Repeated crossings incidents have stirred calls for protection which fade until the next accident.

Des Moines reports that primary nominees must file expenditure statements within ten days after the primaries with the secretary of state. County officer candidates file with the county auditor. M. E. Kendall of Albia, a governor candidate, used a new system, filing two reports before the primary and planning a third this week. His second report on June 4 shows expenditures since the first report totaling $434.
