Chicago markets shifted with weather and rust concerns pushing grain prices. Wheat rose modestly on strong daily demand while corn and oats showed varied gains as buyers piled into elevators and futures contracts.
Prices drifted for cattle receipts about 1,200 with steady demand for some classes. Sheep and hog markets showed mixed gains and declines. cotton futures opened barely steady and stock market mixed with oils leading gains, while bonds and metals fluctuated amid European currency weakness.
Cattle receipts 4,000 with steady to strong demand for heavy steers and good yearlings. Hogs receipts 22,000 show mixed demand with top price around 26.50 but lighter weights weaker. Sheep receipts 12,000 show lambs steady to 25 cents lower and top native lambs near 15.25 with Montana and Idaho offerings listing in the mix.
Receipts 200 cattle mostly steady with inferior grades lower. steady hogs with some lifting. sheep and lambs 1,500 head steady to firm. Calves high, steer values 7.50 to 12.50, hogs heavy to light, lambs 14.00 to 14.50, fat sheep 6.25 to 7.10. bulk classes dominate trading.
HOGS receipts 7500 higher prices noted with weights and ranges including mixed 14.00 15.76 and bulk around 18.00. CATTLE receipts listed. beef steers good fed 13.90 15.00, short fed 10.50 13.00, fed yearlings 16.00 15.00, grass steers 7.00 10.50, fat cows and heifers 8.00 12.50, stockers and feeders 4.00 6.50, stock heifers 4.00 7.50. SHEEP receipts 3000 weak.
Receipts include hogs at 7,000 head higher with heavy and light weights quoted from 16.45 to 16.00. Cattle see steady to lower bids with yearlings and calves around 14.50 to 14.00. cows weaker near 14.50. Sheep receipts steady with bulk bids from 15.60 down to 14.00 and 7.60 to 7.50 for processed stock.
Hogs receipts 4 500 with price moves 19 to 15 cents higher for shippers. Packers steady. Bulk hogs around 214.75. Cattle receipts slow with steers and heifers around 9 50 to 16.00 and 4.00 to 16.00. Sheep steady to higher with ewes near 7 and lambs around 14 60.
New York reports higher creamery butter and milk prices with multiple grade distinctions and receipts shown. Chicago market shows lower butter and steady to higher firsts with vast case counts and storage packed trends. Poultry remains unchanged.
The Waterloo market report lists wholesale and retail prices for dairy butter creamery orange products and potatoes along with cattle veal hay straw and hides. Notable items include good grass fed steers heifers cows and veal with prices shown per hundredweight or per unit and various bale quantities.
