Des Moines July 12. Iowa railroad commissioners report outlines methods to ease freight pileups. Local committees built up targeted food trains and rotated flows to balance shipments, with about 10 000 cars moved between terminals.
Des Moines July 12 The state executive council met as a board of review to examine tax assessments but adjourned as 12 counties had not reported. Counties missing reports: Adams Audubon Benton Boone Bremer Buena Vista Clarke Monroe Montgomery Tama Wayne Winneshiek.
Dwight N. Lewis of the state railroad board and reporter Fred Fous will hold hearings this week in Iowa towns on train service and related matters. Sessions include Churchville Warren County on traffic service Covington near Cedar Rapids on reopening Milwaukee station Ruthven on a Milwaukee crossing Spencer Cornell station agent issue Corwith crossing over M & St L. road.
Perry Iowa July 12 Jack Porter of Granger owns a hound whose carrier pigeon like sense drives it to home. Sent north to Canada with friends moving away the dog traveled back long distance, reaching Granger starved but glad to be home. Porter will keep the remarkable dog.
Jesse M L Gilbert of Prairie City a son of a deceased local man is missing after traveling west from Newton Iowa. He received 31437.28 from the estate March 20 and has about 11 000 in real estate deals. Search efforts meet no trace. he is believed to be within 380 miles of his destination when trail ends with about 2000 still due from his father's estate.
In Woodbine Iowa on July 12 a fatal oil field accident killed 41 year old Leighton Derry. He carried twenty six thousand dollars in his person and died beneath a car his father was driving. Knight testified at the L. D. 5S. Gilbert church service that he would write home. The body was taken to Lamont Indiana for burial.
A young boy died after his father Mr Derry, a Watkins Medicine salesman, returned home from Woodbine. His two children ran to greet him. the girl climbed in while the boy stood on the running board and fell under the car. Despite the father stopping at once, the lad was fatally struck.
